Creative Arts in Education and Therapy (CAET) welcomes a range of contributions from scholars, practitioners, and educators working across creative arts, therapy, education, and health.

Manuscripts derived directly from student theses or dissertations should be substantially revised and adapted to meet international journal standards prior to submission.

Author Guidelines

1. General Requirements & Author Declarations

Manuscripts submitted to Creative Arts in Education and Therapy (CAET) must meet the following requirements:
  • Submissions must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere
  • Manuscripts should be written in clear, professional English
  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy of content, references, and permissions
  • All submissions must comply with CAET’s Publication Ethics policies
By submitting a manuscript, authors also confirm that:
  • All authors have approved the submission and agree to its content 
  • The work complies with ethical standards, including those related to research involving human participants where applicable 
  • Any conflicts of interest have been disclosed 
  • All necessary permissions for third-party materials (e.g., images, figures, copyrighted content) have been obtained
  • Any use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in the research or writing process has been appropriately disclosed
In addition:
  • Authors acknowledge that, upon acceptance, they will be required to review and approve the final copyedited and typeset versions of their manuscript prior to publication
  • Authors agree to sign a formal publishing agreement granting CAET the right to publish the work

2. Manuscript Structure

A typical manuscript should include:

Peer Review Process

1. Overview

CAET operates a double-blind peer review process to ensure academic rigor, fairness, and integrity.
All submissions undergo an initial editorial screening (desk review). Manuscripts deemed suitable are sent for peer review by experts in the relevant field.
All research manuscripts are reviewed by at least two independent external reviewers with relevant expertise. Members of the Editorial Board may also contribute to the review process where appropriate.
Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and are independent of the authors.
Based on reviewers’ reports, the Editors make a decision: accept, revise, or reject.

2. Initial Editorial Screening

Upon submission, manuscripts are first reviewed by the editorial office to assess: 
  • Relevance to the journal’s scope 
  • Basic quality and clarity 
  • Compliance with submission guidelines
Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria may be returned to authors without external review.

3. Assignment To Editor

Eligible manuscripts are assigned to the Editor-in-Chief or a designated editor, who oversees the peer review process.

4. Peer Review

Manuscripts are typically evaluated by one or two independent reviewers with expertise in the relevant field.
Reviewers are invited to assess: 
  • Originality and contribution 
  • Methodological or conceptual rigor 
  • Clarity and coherence 
  • Relevance to the field

5. Review Outcomes

Based on reviewer feedback, the editorial decision may be: 
  • Accept 
  • Minor revisions 
  • Major revisions

Authors will receive reviewer comments to support revisions where applicable.

6. Revision Process

Authors invited to revise their manuscripts should: 
  • Address all reviewer comments 
  • Provide a clear response to revisions (if requested)
Revised manuscripts may be returned to reviewers for further evaluation.

7. Final Decision

The final decision on publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor, based on reviewer feedback and the quality of revisions.

Where conflicts arise, alternative reviewers or editors will be assigned.

Publication Ethics

1. Overview

Creative Arts in Education and Therapy (CAET) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and ethical practice in scholarly publishing.
The journal adheres to internationally recognized principles of publication ethics and follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
CAET supports ethical practices across research-based, practice-based, and community-engaged work in the fields of creative arts, therapy, education, and health.

2. Responsibilities Of Authors

Authors submitting to CAET are expected to: 
  • Submit original work that is not under consideration elsewhere

Authors must ensure that all work involving human participants is conducted in accordance with appropriate ethical standards.
Where applicable, authors should: 
  • Obtain informed consent from participants 
  • Ensure the confidentiality and anonymity of participants 
  • Respect the dignity, rights, and wellbeing of individuals and communities 
  • Follow relevant institutional, professional, or cultural ethical guidelines
For research conducted within institutional settings, authors should indicate whether ethical approval was obtained from an appropriate review body (e.g., institutional ethics committee), where applicable.
For practice-based or community-based work, authors should demonstrate ethical awareness and responsibility appropriate to the context.
Ethical considerations must be explicitly addressed in the manuscript where relevant.

4. Responsibilities Of Editors

Editors are responsible for: 
  • Making fair, unbiased, and independent editorial decisions 
  • Evaluating submissions based on academic merit and relevance 
  • Ensuring that all manuscripts undergo appropriate peer review 
  • Maintaining confidentiality of submissions 
  • Addressing ethical concerns or allegations appropriately

  • Maintain confidentiality of manuscripts

6. Peer Review Integrity

CAET operates a single-blind peer review process.
Primary research articles and scholarly contributions are subject to external peer review by independent reviewers with relevant expertise.
The journal ensures that peer review is conducted in a fair, transparent, and academically rigorous manner.

7. Plagiarism And Misconduct

CAET does not tolerate:

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that may be perceived to influence the research or its interpretation.
This may include, but is not limited to:

All sources of support should be clearly acknowledged in the manuscript.
Reviewers
Reviewers must declare any conflicts of interest before agreeing to review a manuscript.
Reviewers should not participate in the review process if: 
  • They have a personal or professional relationship with the authors 
  • They have competing academic or financial interests 
  • They feel unable to provide an objective assessment
Editors
Editors must: 
  • Recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where a conflict of interest exists 
  • Ensure that submissions are evaluated fairly and independently 
  • Avoid any influence from personal, institutional, or commercial interests
Where necessary, an alternative editor will be assigned.
Transparency

1. Overview

Upon acceptance and publication, authors are required to agree to the journal’s Publishing Agreement
Authors retain copyright of their work.
Authors grant the publisher (Inspirees Publishing) an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, and irrevocable license to:
  • Publish, reproduce, distribute, and make the work available in all formats and media 
  • Archive and preserve the article in databases and indexing services 
  • Translate and disseminate the article in other languages, supporting international accessibility and knowledge exchange 
  • Adapt and prepare the article for publication (including copyediting and formatting) 
  • License or sublicense the article to third parties for academic distribution and indexing 
This license applies to both commercial and non-commercial uses related to the operation and dissemination of the journal.

3. Author Rights

Authors retain the right to use their work for scholarly and professional purposes, including:

4. Open Access and Archive Access (2018–2025)

In 2018, CAET transitioned from a subscription model to providing free and open access to its content.
As part of this transition, all previously published articles (including those from 2015–2018) were made openly accessible on the journal platform.
Unless otherwise specified, these articles are available for: 
  • Reading, downloading, and sharing for non-commercial scholarly purposes  
  • Use with proper attribution to the original publication in CAET 
However: 
  • The content may not be used for commercial purposes  
  • The content may not be modified, adapted, or translated without permission from the publisher  

5. Hybrid Publication Model (2026 onwards)

From 2026 onwards, CAET operates under a subscription and hybrid access model: 
  • Most articles are published under subscription access 
  • Selected articles may be published as Open Access 
For Open Access articles published under this model: 
  • Specific licensing terms (e.g., Creative Commons licenses) will be clearly indicated on the article 
  • These licenses define the permitted reuse and distribution conditions 

6. Permissions for Reuse

Requests to reuse material published in CAET (including text, figures, and tables) should be directed to the publisher.
